DAM 999- the lore of roaring seas

An immortal passion, irresistible instinct and ecstatic life…no one can turn back when sea beckons with her alluring mysteries! DAM999, the Hollywood movie directed by Sohan Roy is all set to unveil this bond of love between man and ocean. This is an untold story of extraordinary lives of nine characters revolving round a deteriorating dam built during the pre-independence days of India. DAM999 is a saga of love, lust and adventure of these nine characters who personify nine different emotions. Here the dam is symbolizing the walls of human mind, which obstructs the efflux of storming emotions in all of us. Like the dam, the characters are also on the brink of a collapse, as their hopes and lives would be swept away by the tempestuous waters they hold within.

BIZTV NETWORK FZE in U.A.E. has taken up the exciting challenge of producing DAM999 with the support of the Maritime Community around the world. The project is co-supported by Marine BizTV, BizTV Events and Aries Telecasting Pvt Ltd in U.A.E., Singapore, and India respectively.

My experience with DAM 999

“DAM 999 not only speaks about boats and ships, but it gives the real essence of a mariner’s life. Actually, there is a silent message for the world, in this movie and quite a serious one too, Sohan Roy has taken up the responsibility to share it. I am portraying the Bheebatsa Rasa in DAM 999. My character’s name is Durai, a person who has an issue with the protagonist. I was completely convinced by the passion of the director. “

“The most interesting part is the way Sohan has written the script of the movie. I remember our first conversation; he told me that he is a debutant director working on a Hollywood movie. Then I asked for the script and when he explained it, I found it really interesting. It was well drafted by doing a lot of background research over a period of 3 years. The best part about Sohan is that, whatever he does, he gives it a 100 percent.”

It was an exciting time being the part of such a big budget Hollywood movie made with the purpose of becoming the pride of my country. Cameras were rolled down in both Indian and International locations including Alleppey, Cochin, Ooty, Thrissur, Dubai, Fujairah, and Hyderabad. The work with the eminent cast and crew including the prominent personalities from the Indian and the International cinema industries was a great learning experience for me. Even though this is the first Hollywood project by Roy, his dedication and passion towards it helped us in successfully completing the project before the expected time.

A memorable incident

A Memorable incident that I had is the scene with the venomous snake during the shoot of DAM 999. It was not funny but scary. It was my first experience holding a real snake, that too, a poisonous one. It was a great challenge for me.

Meet DURAI – my role in DAM 999

Durai, my character in the film is one of the most challenging roles I have played in my career. Durai, the antagonist in the story, is an embodiment of Bheebatsa Rasa (disgust). Blue is the color associated with this rasa. Crooked, Devious, and Rude are the best words that can describe Durai.

The character epitomizes the vulgar face of power politics, of any country. He is the one who would go to any extent to get things done in his favor. His magic lies in being able to think quickly and exploit even a hostile situation. This unscrupulous and power hungry politico could forfeit or betray anything to reach his goal. He is a sadist. Daring, bold and opportunistic, he was brutal to those who opposed him.

I believe Durai will be a turning point in my career. The role was very challenging, as I had to go through several risky and adventurous shots during the making. DAM 999 and Durai will be a great treat to be watched, for sure. Come and join me in theaters by the end of this year to enjoy a movie made with a lot of passion.
