DAM999 for Chinese Oscar after Oscar 2012
Golden Rooster awards are the most prestigious awards ever given for films in Mainland China, the event is mostly referred to as China’s Academy Awards. Sohan Roy’s DAM999 was suggested for this National Film Award event by famous Israelian Director Dan Wolman, the eminent Jury of numerous International festivals. DAM999 is the very first feature film from India to be qualified for this prestigious award apart from its 5 selections for Oscar Awards 2012 under ‘Best Picture’,‘Original Score’ & 3 ‘ Original Soundtrack’.
Director Sohan Roy states, “I was worried if China would get to watch DAM999 owing to the theme of the movie but this selection has indeed left me speechless. I would like to thank Director Dan Wolman & the Festival committee for this surprise.”
Golden Roosters were initially available for nominees from mainland Chinese alone but over the years, the selection of movies extended to many more countries.This national film award event comprises a film festival and an awards ceremony.The awards cover a wide range of film categories and performances and are designed to promote creativity, film research and criticism. Approved by the central government, the China Film Golden Rooster Awards and the Mass Film Hundred Flowers Awards are the only two permanent national art awards, with a long history and a great influence in China film industry.Last but not the least DAM999 now has turned to be a part of China’s greatest annual event that takes place in Shaoxing City towards the end of September and will be competing under 12 categories.
Re- Release of DAM999
DAM999, the movie that created waves of controversy in 2011 over the denial of the fundamental right of freedom of expression, is all set for a second round of screening in Kerala alone owing to public interest. Director Sohan Roy & BizTV Network will be playing the movie in Cinemax-Oberon Mall, Cochin on all Saturdays & Sundays at 9.30am from 19th of May 2012.
Warner Bros distributed movie ‘DAM999’ conveyed a strong social message through the colorful fabric of human feelings, the ’Navarasas’. The well known director Sohan Roy depicts the events, characters and emotions of 9 people accidentally connected with the crumbling of an age old dam in his debut.
The Hollywood movie ‘DAM999’ released in both 2D & 3D in various countries in Nov 2011 followed by the 5 Oscar selections received under 3 categories ( Best Picture, Original Score & Original song). The movie received many more international accreditation such as ‘Global Music Award of Excellence’ for motion picture soundtrack and ‘Award of Merit’ for the Original Score apart from the international attention gained at major film festivals worldwide. The script of DAM999 has also been selected to the Oscar library months before its release.
